Smelly Groin in Women

Smelly Groin in Women

Vaginal odor is normal. Heavy sweating and body odor happen to everyone when they exercise, are nervous, or get stressed or too warm. But what causes it, and when is it not normal? Find out the answer, what is Smelly Groin in Women.
If you’re experiencing vaginal odor when you sweat or without any other symptoms, it’s likely there is no cause for concern. It’s also common throughout your menstrual cycle and immediately after sex.
Other causes that need attention include:

  • A forgotten tampon
  • Bacterial vaginosis (overgrowth of bacteria that leads to fishy odor discharge, itching, burning during urination)
  • Poor hygiene
  • Trichomoniasis (a sexually transmitted infection that leads to foul-smelling vaginal discharge, itching, painful urination)
  • Urinary tract infection
  • Cervical or vaginal cancer (more rare)

How To Get Rid Of A Smelly Groin

If you are experiencing any of the above conditions, you may want to see a doctor. Other ways to reduce smell in the groin area include:

  • Bathing regularly with antibacterial soap and washing thoroughly between the folds of skin, particularly after working out.
  • Ensure that the skin on the genitals are thoroughly wiped after urinating.
  • The anus should be thoroughly cleaned after defecating.
  • Clothing and underwear made of lighter textiles allow for ventilation. This does not mean that the garments have to be see-through. Some textiles contribute to the heat build up in the groin region.
  • Trimming pubic hair, which can be a breeding ground for yeast.
  • Try food remedies such as yogurt and plenty of water.

Some women try to douche or use a vaginal deodorant; these products increase irritation and smell. Panty liners can also prevent sweat from drying and cause odor. Most women who experience a sweaty or smelly groin area are able to control it with a few at-home tricks. If your smell is persistent and especially pungent, you may want to see a doctor.
