How soon can you notice STD symptoms?

Depending on the type or strain of sexually transmitted disease or infection you have, the incubation period varies. Some symptoms of STDs can develop in a matter of days, and sometimes don’t appear until months or years later. Often, few or no symptoms appear. This can be detrimental to your overall health. If you feel like there is any chance that you have an STD, it is paramount for you to get checked. Many places offer free local testing services.

For your reference here are some of the most common STDs and their incubation periods:

-Chlamydia: About 50-70% of men and women don’t have symptoms from chlamydia. That is a high number. If symptoms do occur, they appear after 1-3 weeks. However, there are many cases that symptoms don’t start until later on.

-Gonorrhea: Gonorrhea is known to be quite asymptomatic. If symptoms due appear, it can be as early as a day after.

Syphilis: The first symptom of syphilis that appears on the body is usually an ulcer like formation. This appears about 21 days after exposure to the bacteria. However, many people have reported symptoms after months.

-Trichomoniasis: For men, trichomoniasis is one of the most dangerous because most men never have symptoms. For women, they usually appear 5 days to 4 weeks after.

Genital Warts: Those who carry the strain of herpes that is symptomatic, will usually see signs of genital warts within 3 months of the initial exposure and infection.
