Delayed Ejaculation.. Lasting forever…or just trouble getting there?

Delayed Ejaculation.. Lasting Forever.. or Just Trouble Getting There?

While some men have learned how to control their timing of having an orgasm and ejaculate, others last for a long time without intending to do so, a situation which is called delayed ejaculation. We all have heard about premature ejaculation, but did you know about delayed ejaculation?

What Is Delayed Ejaculation?

Anejaculation or the Dry OrgasmDelayed ejaculation – also known as ejaculatory incompetence; sex – delayed ejaculation; or retarded ejaculation- is a medical condition in which the man cannot ejaculate, either during intercourse or by manual stimulation with a partner, or it takes an extended period of sexual stimulation to reach sexual climax and ejaculate. Some men with delayed ejaculation are unable to ejaculate at all [see our previous post about anejaculation].
Delayed ejaculation may be a once in a lifetime, or a life long problem; while it is normal from time to time to ejaculate with some latency, men suffering from delayed ejaculation struggle with the problem every time when having sexual relations.

Causes of Delayed Ejaculation

Delayed ejaculation can be caused by chronic diseases, injuries to the pelvis, back and nerves, surgery, or medication. Besides organic and medical causes, delayed ejaculation can also have psychological causes. Depression and anxiety (including performance anxiety), relationship problems, religious background that makes the person view sex as sinful, lack of attraction for a partner, the habit of unusual masturbation, traumatic events, or even anger towards the own partner are some of the psychological causes of delayed ejaculation. Older age could be another cause of delayed ejaculation, when men age, it’s normal for ejaculation to take longer- and drinking alcohol or using illegal drugs are further causes of delayed ejaculation.
While some men would wish to last longer [see our last weeks post about premature ejaculation] men suffering from delayed ejaculation may be facing some complications. Complications following delayed ejaculation can range from a loss of sexual interest, stress and anxiety about sexual performance, relationship problems, to male infertility.

When to See a Doctor for Delayed Ejaculation?

While most men learn to deal with conditions such as premature or delayed ejaculation, many seek a doctor’s guidance to find a solution for the never ending pressure and stress caused by ejaculatory disorders. When considering seeing a doctor for delayed ejaculation, you can chose to see your family doctor or a urologist for consultation.
The timing of seeing a doctor will vary from man to man and will mostly depend on the level of dissatisfaction, stress, and anger about the partner’s or self performance. Please keep in mind that it is not a shame to see a doctor for ejaculatory problems.
Go see a doctor if delayed ejaculation is an issue for you or your partner, if you have another known health problem that may be linked to delayed ejaculation, you take medications that could be causing the problem, or you have other symptoms along with delayed ejaculation that may or may not seem related.

Exams and Tests for Diagnosing Delayed Ejaculation

When seeing a doctor, he will ask you questions, do a physical examination, and possibly perform some test. If he asked questions, please be honest and as detailed as possible; it is for your own good. Testing for delayed ejaculation may entail stimulation of the penis with a vibrator or other device in order to determine whether you have a physical (often nervous system) problem. A neurological examination may reveal other nerve problems that are associated with delayed ejaculation. Your doctor may also consider taking blood samples to be tested for hormonal levels, as well as a urine sample for analysis in order to rule out urological problems such as an infection.

We will talk about delayed ejaculation treatment in the next post!
